Explorers

Hey guys, long time since I've posted something new on CGTalk. It's getting harder and harder to find the time for personal projects.
This one, started from a ruff sketch I did some time ago. Initially I just wanted to keep it on a concept stage but I got carried away and I started detailing for the next 3 weeks. The final resolution is 10.000 pixels wide. The subject is about a future generation of explorers who landed on an Earth like planet and they found this massive city, very similar to our ancient civilizations. Max and Vray for this one, and of course painted over in Photoshop. Check the Details

TerraNova

I started this one as a VUE test. Next thing I know I was caught up in this personal project for 3 weeks
The driving force behind this work is the idea that we are not alone in the universe. After all, it would be a terrible waste of space right? So I envisioned the exploring mission of some advanced civilization having first contact with a primitive new world.
I wanted to remove one cliff in the back in order to kill the simetry but I thought it looks cool though.
Render took almost 15 hours at 4000 pixels wide and ultra settings. I painted over in photoshop, keeping the actual VUE shape for a future camera projection.
The spaceship is made in max, with some heavy paintover in PS.
Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it :P

It's just a pretext to create a stereoscopic image.
You need red-cyan glasses for it.
the background is a mattepainting. Some columns are painted over in photoshop because maxwell seems to love noise so I had to paint it over a lil bit. Rendering time was 50 hours at 5200/3000.
